New Hawaiian Hot Grip Deck Pads.

We are developing a Hawaiian Hot Grip Deck Pad System that uses 3" x 12" and 6" x 12" thin injection molded clear pads with small patented air chambers that provide a very comfortable and excellent wet grip pads for the decks of surf, skim, and SUP boards.
Deck pads are being test marketed in Hawaii with a select group of surfers and SUP riders.

Surfreviews.tv tests out the Nose Guard!

Surfreview.tvcame up with a way to test how effectively the SurfCo Hawaii Nose Guard can protect your head.

The test was simple, but proves a great point: we took two watermelons (to represent a human head) and dropped them on the nose of a surfboard, once while the board had no nose guard and then again after applying the nose guard. We decided to drop the melons from a height of 20 inches, measuring before each drop to ensure that the damage to the melons would be equal apart from the protection of the nose guard. The whole goal of this test was simply to determine how much protection a SurfCo nose guard would provide.

"...Mid air, the board comes away from my feet and is now fin side up underneath me. Uh-oh. I freefalll about 8 or 9 feet into the trough of the wave and smack shin first onto a fin. The impact was excruciating. I grab the board and see the fin box is smashed in ½”. This can’t be good..."

We were stoked to have Tribal Surf test and review our Pro Teck fin line... Here is an

excerpt from the article:

What surprised me however was how well the Pro Tecks held in the pocket in bigger surf. Often times I’ll stay fairly deep in the pocket for as long as the section allows to build up as much speed as I can to power through the shoulder. With the flexible edges of the Pro Tecks, the sheer weight of the Islander, and the steepness of the pocket, I had expected to “slide down” (for lack of a better phrase) the wall. I did not! On the contrary, it held in there like it was on rails building up momentum letting me shoot out clear past the section. Thinking this was a fluke, I kept repeating this with the same effect. I’m not sure I understand why the Pro Tecks were able to cling to the wall like that ... but damn it’s fun!

For sure it was your rubber edged fin Pro Teck. You can imagine the force of the blow for your Pro Teck fin to have done this. I have no doubt if it would have been a fiberglass fin I would have been in a struggle to stay alive. It would have certainly hit the major artery in that part of the arm which is the 4th largest in the body. That is why I’m so deeply thankful. We’re used to seeing what a fiberglass fin can do to surfer, but seldom do we see this kind of carnage from your excellent fins. My testimony is, if this is what happened to me using Pro Teck fins, imagine what would have happened to me if I was using a fiberglass fin? I’ve been bounced off the bottom in big Cloudbreak’s, broke a board with my face in Australia, bitten by cape fur seals in South Africa surfing 4 miles from the place I was shooting a Discovery Channel Shark Week film on Great Whites, and bitten by a shark in Jacksonville. Either I suck, or I surf a lot, you can decide... This injury was no big deal, until the shower head peeled back this nice big slab of meat and I started imagining the path and the depth that fiberglass would have gone. I keep telling my friends: “You remember those green rubber army knifes we used to do battle with when we were kids (this is before video games right), imagine the force it would have taken to make a cut like the one I received? I don’t get scared too easily, and I don’t dwell on what ifs or could have been, this is the exception because I made a conscious choice when I switched to your fins. It was a powerful revelation that the choice I made to use your fins help me avoid a disastrous fate.

It's awesome to see our SurfCo Teamriders doing well in surf meets and life!

This past week I competed in the ASP Grade 3 Skullcandy Jr. Pro event at Sebastian Inlet. I did well. I made the semi-finals where I got 3rd behind two hawaiians Malia and Leila. The weather was terrible with gusty winds and rain downpours the entire day. Waves were 2-3ft. I plan on doing another jr. pro during the US Open event at Huntington Beach in July. ~Amy Nicholl

Dear David,

It was 10 years ago when I first discovered your Pro Teck fins, nose and tail guards. I recall asking a salesperson at a surfshop if there was any way I can get back into surfing without getting cut up in the face or the tip of the board gouging my eyes. When he introduced me to your products I couldn’t believe it! They were the exact things I was dreaming of. I immediately got back into waves after a 15 year break. 15 years prior, I dropped surfing as a sport after a close friend injured his forehead when a board rammed right into it.

Today all my surfboards come with the Pro Teck Fins, nose and tail guards. I would not go into the water without it. It has allowed me to feel totally safe despite any kind of wipeout------in my case nothing over head size! I have traveled to Bali and Australia every year on a surfari and surf every weekend in my home breaks in Chiba, Japan. Thanks David for bringing me back into this sport. Now, like most surfers throughout the world, I’m totally addicted to surfing.

SUP in the Snow

These photos from Jim Misiewicz of The Outpost of Holland in Michigan show us that you can SUP in any season of the year. I love these photos the scenery is amazing. I can only imagine how awesome it must be to be out on the water. I wonder how cold the water is... I'd hate to fall in though. They even use the EZ Plugs to tie down gear on their stand up paddle boards. Awesome!

"I have been a Proteck fin user since I started surfing about ten years ago and I've also been somewhat of an activist for people who do not ride them (I've even got a testimonial on your site on how I WASN'T hurt thanks to the fins). Last year, I sold one of my boards to my friend Brooke and of course it included a set of Proteck fins. We are excited to announce the development of the Jumbo Nose and Tail Guard for SUP boards. The molds are in production as we speak and a test run for the Jumbo Nose Guard will run in the first week of January.

If all goes well, the Jumbo Nose Guard and Jumbo Tail Guard will available in early February 2010.

Initial color offerings will be clear, white, and black.

The Jumbo Nose Guard will retail for $35.00 and the Jumbo Tail Guard will retail for $19.00. You can save $4 by purchasing the a combo pack for $50.

New and Improved EZ Plug Handles

SurfCo Hawaii had improved the EZ Plug Handles by using a new glue application that is stronger. It holds up to 60 pounds. It is great for stand up paddle boards, kayaks, and other marine crafts. They come in either a contour or flat handle. Here is a picture of a stand up paddle board with two EZ Plug handles; one in the middle and one on the side. This makes a great stocking gift for your favorite surfer!

2009 Wahine Nose Guard Rookie Award Winner!

SurfCo Hawaii wants to congratulate Leila Hurst, the 2009 Wahine (women) Nose Guard Rookie Award winner! This prestigious award started in 1992 and is given to the man and woman surfer who competes in the Triple Crown for the first time and scores the highest points of all the rookie surfers.

The award is a coveted prize by rookie surfers because the recipients have proven their superior contest surfing abilities and have gone on to reach the top ranks in professional surfing.
